A systematic review on Digital Game Based Learning for Emotional Intelligence training
Abstract
Emotional intelligence (EI) can be enhanced through formal programs such as Digital Game-Based Learning (DGBL). However, effective design practices remain unclear. This review examines DGBL for EI, following the PRISMA guidelines for systematic reviews. Searches in Scopus, PubMed, and Google Scholar identified 13 peer-reviewed studies, analyzed by two independent reviewers. The impact of each DGBL was scanned through the lens of the DGBL Effectiveness Evaluation Framework, which helped us navigate through the multitude of evaluation design, methods and criteria. Results show that game mechanics lead to different learning and motivation outcomes. Conclusions are drawn about DGBL resource management and their indications for future development in the field of game-based emotional training.
