EFFECTS OF HEMATOCRIT VARIATION ON BLOOD FLOW IN A SEGMENT WITH ANEURYSM OF THE POSTERIOR CEREBRAL ARTERY
Abstract
The blood flow inside a segment extends from the most lateral aspect of the cerebral peduncle and ends lateral to the posterior edge of the midbrain (P2P) with aneurysm is numerically investigated. The aneurysm location is chosen to be at the bifurcation point. The blood shear thinning property is accounted for by considering the modified Krieger model 5 parameters (MKM5) model. The unavailable blood flow rate pulse at the inlet of P2P segment is deducted relative to the closest available pulse of the Basilar Artery pulse. The main outcome of this contribution is that the Carreau model and the Newtonian models are not producing accurate results, but the Newtonian model can provide results as accurate as the complicated MKM5 model for a modified viscosity value based on the local shear rate range.
