Abstract

This article examines the major geographical issues raised in the third episode of Aeschylus’ Prometheus Bound . Particular attention is paid to the divergences in Io's itinerary compared to that presented in Aeschylus’ Suppliant Women , the problematic localisation of the Chalybes ( PV 714-16) and the Amazons ( PV 723-28), the identification of the Caucasus and the location where Prometheus was chained, both in the Desmotes and in the Lyomenos , after his re-emergence from the Underworld.
