Abstract

The level of rejected products is an important indicator in quality control within the manufacturing industry and often has a direct impact on workers’ performance as well as their psychological condition. This study aims to explore the meanings and adaptation strategies of loom workers toward sack reject management at PT X. The research employs a qualitative approach using a phenomenological method. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation involving five informants consisting of a supervisor, loom operators, and helpers. Data analysis was conducted using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). The findings indicate that sack rejects are perceived by workers not merely as technical errors, but also as psychological burdens and moral responsibilities related to work quality. Factors contributing to rejects are perceived to stem from machine conditions, yarn quality, work fatigue, and production target pressures. Workers develop various adaptation strategies, including technical, social, cognitive, and emotional strategies, to cope with these pressures. These findings emphasize the importance of a quality management approach that is not only oriented toward production efficiency, but also attentive to workers’ experiences and well-being.
