A heating structure from the first half of the 18th century in the Tobolsk posad
Abstract
The study aims to introduce into scientific discourse and characterize a stove identified during archaeological excavations conducted in Tobolsk in 2006. An analysis of cartographic materials, stratigraphic observations, and a numismatic collection allowed dating the discovered heating structure to the early to mid-18th century. The article establishes that the stove was built on the wooden floor of a structure, upon which the brick masonry was laid. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the fact that, based on an analysis of a wide range of sources, the author proposes to consider the examined brick stove design as typical for the first half of the 18th century in the city of Tobolsk. The material recovered from the excavation site and provided analogies from other regions suggest that this type of stove was widespread among the Russian urban population of both Siberia and European Russia.
