Abstract

The research aims of the is to identify the methodological potential of modern technological solutions powered by artificial intelligence (AI tools) in the context of their use as an assistant in teaching writing skills to students pursuing a degree in the 42.03.02 Journalism program in both Russian and foreign languages. The authors substantiated the necessity of considering the application of AI within the stated objective and outlined a number of methodologically promising functions of modern neural networks for this purpose. The main advantages and technical limitations of modern neural networks were identified when used to develop writing skills in journalism students. A comparative analysis of the most popular current AI tools was conducted, among which YandexGPT and DeepSeek were found to be the most effective and accessible. The article also presents an example of a functional prompt for effective interaction between instructors and students with AI, aiming to obtain evaluative corrective feedback for checking and refining written assignments in the news report genre. This prompt includes seven assessment criteria: 1) structure and length; 2) headline; 3) grammatical correctness and factual accuracy; 4) language and style; 5) logic and narrative; 6) emotionality and detail; 7) quote. The scientific novelty of the research lies in its unprecedented description of the potential for applying modern AI-powered tools in the context of developing professional writing skills among journalism students. As a result, the study established that modern AI-based tools can indeed become an effective instrument for both instructors and students in the Journalism program in the context of mastering professional written genres. However, instructors must be proficient in selecting appropriate AI tools and integrating them skillfully and organically into their lessons.
