The speaker’s fascination strategies in the diegetic space of cinematic discourse
Abstract
The article examines the specifics of the fascination production by the speaker, particularly his unsurpassed skill of communicative strategies usage in the diegetic space of cinematic discourse. The purpose of this study is to identify the strategic paradigm of fascination communication. The research scientific novelty lies in the fact that, for the first time, the communicative strategies produced by the speaker to fascinate their listener within the diegetic space of cinematic discourse are highlighted. The research shows that the speaker applies the rhetorical and presentational strategies of fascination: creating a positive impression strategy, constructing an attractive image strategy, and fascination-based self-affirmation strategy. These strategies are based on the mechanism of self-presentation, which consists of the ability to attract on purpose the listener’s attention to those features of one’s appearance that trigger the mechanism of social perception of the speaker. As the result of the study, it was revealed the range of rhetorical and presentational strategies, which are aimed at enhancing the interpersonal relationships between the interlocutors, facilitate the speaker’s favour and sympathy, and help to achieve a successful fascination result.
