Abstract

The results of modeling the determination of the stress state in the deformation zone and in strengthened parts depending on the geometry, rotation frequency and spatial orientation of the toroidal roller in relation to the axis of the workpiece are presented. Using 3D design software (Kompas-3D v23) and computational modeling (Ansys Workbench 19.2), calculations were performed to determine temporary and residual stresses using the finite element method. It was found that with an increase in the profile radius of the toroidal roller from 1.5 to 2.5 mm, the intensity of maximum temporary stresses decreases by 15%, and residual stresses by 14%.With an increase in the diameter of the toroidal roller from 20 to 35 mm, the intensity of maximum temporary stresses decreases by 15%, and the intensity of residual stresses by 10%. With an increase in rotation frequency from 50 to 450 rpm, the intensity of maximum temporary stresses increases by 18%, and residual stresses by 20% when strengthening according to the rolling pattern. The influence of deformation patterns during SPD on the stress state is revealed. With an increase in the roller inclination angle (α) from 0˚ to 75˚, the intensity of maximum temporary and residual stresses decreases by 58% for temporary stresses and by 46% for residual stresses. At large inclination angles of the toroidal roller (α > 60˚), the intensity of maximum temporary stresses is less than the yield strength of the material (σT = 360 MPa), at the same time, the process of only elastic deformation is observed. With an increase in the value of rotation angle (β) of the toroidal roller from 0˚ to 75˚, the intensity of the maximum temporary and residual stresses increases by 20% for temporary stresses and by 9% for residual stresses.
