STUDY OF THE PROPERTIES OF WOOD-POLYMER COMPOSITES BASED ON POLYVINYL CHLORIDE MODIFIED WITH BROMINATED NOVOLAC CARDANOL RESIN
Abstract
The influence of the content of brominated novolac cardanol resin (BNCR) on the physical and mechanical properties of wood-polymer composites based on plasticized polyvinyl chloride and wood flour has been investigated. It has been established that at a BNCR content of 4.5 wt.% the maximum flexural strength (35.8 MPa) and the minimum Brinell hardness are achieved. The experimental data indicate a decrease in water absorption by 40-50% within the range of 0.0-8.6 wt.% BNCR, as well as the presence of a minimum impact strength at a BNCR content of 4.75 wt.%. The composition containing 4.5 wt.% BNCR is considered optimal for structural applications, providing a balanced combination of strength, ductility, and moisture resistance while maintaining the fire resistance of the material.
