Abstract

https://youtu.be/SO34mg_W55s BACKGROUND: About 55.7 million U.S. older adults have at least one chronic condition, and the number is projected to nearly double by 2050. The guidelines of at least 150 minutes/week of moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (PA) are universally recommended to all adults to protect and manage chronic conditions; however, few studies investigate how PA levels impact cardiometabolic conditions in different age groups. This study aims to examine the association between PA levels and cardiometabolic conditions and identify the optimal dose of PA for adults. METHODS: This cross-sectional study used a nationally representative sample of U.S. adults from the Health Information National Trends Survey (HINTS), collected from 2018 to 2022, including 12,913 adults. Associations between the presence of cardiometabolic chronic condition(s) and PA level were estimated using survey-weighted logistic regression models with adjustment for sociodemographic, health, and lifestyle characteristics. Probability of presenting cardiometabolic condition(s) was predicted using ordered logistic regression models and reported predictive margins. RESULTS: In both age groups, sufficient PA level was reduced the likelihood of reporting cardiometabolic chronic condition(s) (younger adults: OR=0.71, 95%CI: 0.58, 0.86, p
