Abstract

This is a draft version of A Beginner’s Guide to Subject Cataloging. This guide was written to help new catalogers develop sound habits for key stages of the subject cataloging process: conceptual analysis, applying Library of Congress Subject Headings, constructing Library of Congress call numbers, and self-review. Future iterations may incorporate the Dewey Decimal Classification and Library of Congress Genre/Form Terms. Constructive feedback from readers is welcome, including corrections, suggestions for clarity, and recommendations for content. Suggestions are welcomed from both instructors and learners.
