Abstract

This paper presents Oda Project, a community space built in a container settlement after the 2023 Türkiye–Syria earthquakes. Inspired by the initiative of Minna no Ie and KASEI’s participatory approach, the project employed a Japanese timber-frame system constructed by students, residents, and local carpenters. The study covers 15-month of preparation, mock-up, and construction, addressing challenges of material sourcing and design adaptations. Through comparative analysis, the findings emphasize the rapid and efficient structural system for unskilled labor, the value of mock-ups, and the need to support vulnerable groups, particularly children. The study offers a replicable framework for future recovery efforts.
