UNVEILING THE SUCCESS FACTORS OF SMART CITIES: A SYSTEMATIC LITERATURE REVIEW USING THE PRISMA APPROACH
Abstract
This research aims to conduct a gap analysis of the critical success factors (CSFs) in Smart City implementation. Leveraging the PRISMA methodology, a systematic literature review was undertaken from indexed databases Google Scholar, Semantic Scholar, and Scopus using the keywords "smart city critical success factors". This research underscores the integral role of environmental sustainability, strategic use of technology, robust governance, and public participation in successful Smart City initiatives. While technological advancements such as big data, IoT, and the potential of blockchain are significant, the crucial role of comprehensive governance structures and public participation emerged as key to the success of Smart City projects. The study reveals considerable gaps in empirical research, particularly within the governance aspect, offering a rich area for future exploration. The findings emphasize the necessity for an integrated approach to Smart City implementation, drawing on multiple domains and dimensions, and championing citizen-centric initiatives. The identified CSFs and research gaps contribute to shaping the future discourse and practice of Smart City implementation, thereby facilitating more successful, sustainable, and inclusive Smart City initiatives
