Abstract

This study explores the physical endurance and adaptation of combatants to extreme and challenging conditions, which are essential for their effectiveness, survival, and ability to complete assigned tasks. On the battlefield, soldiers face prolonged physical and psycho-emotional stress, including intense activity, harsh climatic conditions, limited access to food, water, and rest, and ongoing sleep deprivation. The research emphasizes that insufficient physical endurance can compromise combat performance, lead to rapid fatigue, increase the risk of injuries, and cause serious physiological imbalances. The study examines the physiological and biochemical mechanisms that enable adaptation, focusing on cardiovascular, respiratory, musculoskeletal, and nervous system responses. Adaptations such as increased cardiac output, improved muscle blood supply, enhanced lung capacity, greater mitochondrial density, and optimized oxygen utilization are discussed. Attention is also given to the maintenance of coordination, reaction speed, muscle strength, and overall endurance under prolonged stress. Various types of endurance— aerobic, anaerobic, strength, and coordination— are highlighted for their relevance to different military tasks, from long-distance marches and patrols to short, high-intensity actions and carrying heavy equipment. Modern methods to enhance endurance are explored, including specialized training programs such as CrossFit, functional training, and endurance running, alongside acclimatization protocols, optimized nutrition, hydration strategies, and rehabilitation measures like massage and recovery procedures. Psychological preparation is emphasized as equally important, including stress management, cognitive exercises, breathing techniques, and simulation-based training to improve emotional regulation, attention, and decision-making in combat conditions. The study proposes practical recommendations for developing training and recovery programs tailored to individual soldiers’ characteristics and adaptive potential. By integrating physical, psychological, nutritional, and recovery strategies, these programs aim to strengthen resilience, reduce fatigue and injury risk, and ensure high combat readiness in extreme environments.
