Hiperplasia endometrial cística e cistos ovarianos associados à piometra em cadela
Abstract
Pyometra is a severe and common uterine infection in unspayed female dogs, and its etiology is strongly associated with hormonal dysfunctions. The disease is triggered by hormonal factors and individual predisposition, leading to the accumulation of purulent material in the uterus. This case report describes the clinical presentation, diagnosis, and treatment of a seven-year-old Akita bitch with open-cervix pyometra. Complementary examinations confirmed the diagnosis, revealing a systemic inflammatory process and significant ultrasonographic changes in the reproductive tract, such as the presence of ovarian cysts and a corpus luteum. Ovariohysterectomy (OHE), the treatment of choice, resulted in an excellent outcome, with complete recovery and no complications. This clinical case reinforces the correlation between ovarian and uterine alterations and the predisposition to pyometra, while demonstrating OHE as the definitive and curative intervention for this condition.
