Lethal and Sublethal Impacts of Emamectin Benzoate and Chlorantraniliprole Insecticides on Spodoptera frugiperda (J. E. Smith) Adults under Laboratory Conditions
Abstract
Emamectin benzoate and chlorantraniliprole showed high control activity against adults of Spodoptera frugiperda (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae). The LC20 and LC50 values for emamectin benzoate were 0.026 and 0.09 ppm, respectively. Similarly, LC20 and LC50 values for chlorantraniliprole were 0.589 ppm and 1.541 ppm, respectively. The fecundity, adult longevity and egg hatching rate in the LC50(♀) × LC50(♂) treatments of S. frugiperda were significantly reduced compared with the control. On exposing the adults to sublethal concentrations of emamectin benzoate and chlorantraniliprole by spraying on different days, a slight decrease in fecundity was observed when the adults were exposed on the sprayed day. Shortened male and female longevity were observed in LC20(♀) × LC20(♂) (LC20, adults released on the day of spray). These results revealed that sublethal doses of emamectin benzoate and chlorantraniliprole negatively affected the development and biological activities of S. frugiperda.
