Faunistic Contributions to the Subfamilies Criocerinae and Cryptocephalinae (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) from Eastern Anatolia, Türkiye, with the First National Record of Cryptocephalus richteri
Abstract
A total of 1,437 specimens belonging to the subfamilies Criocerinae and Cryptocephalinae (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) were collected from Ardahan, Ağrı, Iğdır, and Kars provinces (Eastern Anatolia, Türkiye) between 2015–2017 and 2020–2023. Based on faunistic analysis, evaluations, 46 species were identified. Cryptocephalus richteri Medvedev, 1957 is recorded for the first time from Türkiye, representing a new national record. Eiğht species Cheilotoma musciformis (Goeze, 1777), Labidostomis beckeri Weise, 1881, L. cyanicornis Germar, 1822, L. medvedevi Warchalowski, 1985, Smaragdina xanthaspis (Germar, 1824), Cryptocephalus lederi Weise, 1889, C. turcicus Suffrian, 1847, and Pachybrachis cordatus Sassi et Schöller, 2003—are newly recorded for the Eastern Anatolia Region. Furthermore, 18 species are recorded for the first time from Ağrı, 17 from Ardahan, 27 from Iğdır, and 13 from Kars provinces. Host plants, collection localities, and altitudinal ranges of all species are provided in a detailed table. Habitus photographs for all taxa and the aedeagus structure of Cryptocephalus richteri are illustrated for taxonomic reference. These results improve the understanding of the distribution, habitat preferences, and biodiversity of Criocerinae and Cryptocephalinae in Eastern Anatolia, an underexplored area. They also provide baseline data for further faunistic, taxonomic, and ecological studies. The study also highlights the faunistic richness of this biogeographically significant region and underscores the need for continued exploration and conservation efforts
