Periodické štúdiá, feministické myslenie a slovenský kontext: Časopis Aspekt v súvislostiach
Abstract
The study focuses on the trajectories through which feminist thought in Slovakia was shaped (among others) by literary translations published in the journal Aspekt, which has served as a key platform for the development of domestic feminist discourses since 1993. The authors map the historical contexts of Slovak feminisms within periodicals, literature, and international feminist movements, framed through the methodological lens of periodical studies. We understand feminist translation studies, in operational terms, as an analytical sensitivity to the selection of women authors and topics for translation, to editorial and paratextual framing, and to translation solutions relevant to gender and gendered meanings in the periodical medium. Aspekt, as a crucial source of feminist approaches in post-revolutionary Slovakia, is positioned at the core of this enquiry, which investigates how original and translated literature together with literary scholarship published in the journal contributed new interpretations of social reality and the literary canon. Periodicals are understood as dynamic spaces of cultural exchange in which literature, its critical reflection, and translation strategies – including intracultural translation – serve as instruments for transmitting and developing ideas and for building intellectual networks.
