Comparison of the Effectiveness of Peritendinous Hypertonic Dextrose and Physical Therapy Modalities in Knee Osteoarthritis
Abstract
ABS TRACT Objectives: This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of peritendinous hypertonic dextrose (PHD) injection and conventional physical therapy (CPT) in knee osteoarthritis (OA).Material and Methods: A total of 59 patients with knee OA, stage 2-3 according to the Kellegren-Lawrence classification, were included in the study.Peritendinous 15% dextrose was applied to 30 patients for 3 sessions with at least 3 weeks between sessions.Twenty nine patients were included in a 10-session CPT program. In both groups, pre-and posttreatment pain evaluation was compared with visual analogue scale (VAS), and functional evaluation was made with the Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC) score. Results: There was no difference between the groups in terms of age, gender, and body mass index. In the PHD group, while the mean VAS score before treatment was 8.06±1.22,the mean VAS score after treatment was 4.7±1.72 (p
