Abstract

Abstract. Relevance of the study. The current stage of educational development and the social environment highlights the need to preserve young people’s health and to stimulate their physical activity. Scientific evidence indicates a tendency toward a decline in physical fitness levels and motivation for physical education among senior schoolgirls, which is limited motor activity, the predominance of digital leisure activities, and the reduced attractiveness of traditional forms of exercise. In this context, the introduction of modern health-promoting technologies is considered appropriate, particularly the Pilates system, which combines physical load with elements of psycho-emotional regulation and correction of the musculoskeletal system. Purpose of the study was to scientifically substantiate and experimentally confirm the effectiveness of an extracurricular pilates program for developing motor qualities in girls of grades 10-11. Methods. The study employed analysis and synthesis of scientific and methodological sources, a pedagogical experiment, testing of motor qualities, and methods of mathematical statistics. Results. A methodology for extracurricular pilates classes was developed and implemented, based on the principles of an individual approach, gradual increase of loads, accessibility, conscious motor activity, regularity, and a health-oriented focus. Classes were conducted three times per week, lasting 45-60 minutes, and included a warm-up, main, and cool-down part. The results of the pedagogical experiment demonstrated statistically significant improvements in all studied indicators of motor qualities among the girls (Р < 0.001). The most pronounced gains were observed in static endurance and balance ability (Plank test and One-Leg Stand test). In 10th-grade girls, performance improvements ranged from 25-64%, while in 11th-grade girls they ranged from 35-80%. Conclusions. The use of pilates within the system of extracurricular physical and health-promoting activities for senior schoolgirls ensures comprehensive development of motor qualities (flexibility, strength, coordination, endurance, and balance), contributes to improved posture and psycho-emotional state, and fosters sustained motivation for regular physical activity. The proposed methodology can be recommended for practical implementation in educational institutions as an effective means of physical education and health promotion for senior school-age girls.
