Abstract

Reduced graphene and metal oxide nanocomposites have been a lucrative material for developingsupercapacitors as well as electrochemical sensors. In the present study, we have prepared molybdenumoxideand molybdenum oxide/reduced graphene oxide nanocomposite (MoO2/rGONC) by the method of hydrothermal synthesis. The structural and morphological analyses were conducted using X-ray Diffraction (XRD), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). Electrochemical analysiswas performed by using Cyclic Voltammetry (CV). Electrochemical characterisation yielded the specificcapacitances (SC) of 179.1 F/g (MoO2) and 340.1 F/g (MoO2/rGONC) at 1 A/g, retaining 90–94.5 per cent of itscapacitance after 2000 cycles. The lead (Pb 2+ ) sensor was constructed by modifying the MoO2/rGONC. MoO2/rGONC electrode demonstrated efficient lead ion detection, suggesting its potential for sensingapplications. The dual functional usage of the prepared materials, which demonstrates their energy storage andeffectiveness for sensors, is the vital outcome of the study and opens ways for sustainable and versatile devices.
