Abstract

In contemporary education, the integration of technology into teaching and learning practices has become indispensable for enhancing educational outcomes. Human resource (HR) departments play a crucial role in this transformation by facilitating faculty development, driving change management processes, fostering an innovative organizational culture, aligning performance management systems with digital competencies, and ensuring the availability of adequate infrastructure. However, despite the numerous benefits associated with digital integration, several challenges persist, particularly faculty resistance, insufficient training, and infrastructure limitations. These barriers often hinder the seamless adoption and effective use of educational technologies, posing significant obstacles to the successful digital transformation of higher education institutions. This literature review adopts a systematic review methodology to explore the role of HR in overcoming these challenges and supporting digital transformation in the higher education sector. Specifically, it examines the impact of HR-led training programs on technology adoption, the strategies HR departments use to address faculty resistance, and their contributions to infrastructure development. Additionally, the review assesses how the prevailing organizational culture influences faculty engagement with digital technologies and identifies best practices for HR-driven technology implementation. Research consistently highlights that HR initiatives, such as targeted training programs, change management strategies, and incentive-based approaches, are essential for facilitating technology adoption within educational settings. These programs equip faculty with the necessary skills to effectively integrate digital tools into their teaching practices and help to build a more favourable environment for technology-driven change. However, despite these efforts, further research is needed to understand HR interventions' long-term effects and develop strategies for ensuring sustained faculty engagement with digital technologies. This includes investigating the optimal conditions for ongoing participation in digital initiatives and exploring innovative approaches to overcoming resistance.
