Driving Safety Risk Assessment Method for Highways Under Slippery Road Conditions in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region
Abstract
In recent years, the number of traffic disruption incidents caused by adverse weather has been increasing annually. Under slippery road conditions, the reduction in pavement friction coefficient significantly increases the risk of traffic accidents, such as rear-end collisions, rollovers. The climatic characteristics of the Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region differ substantially from other provinces in China, with frequent occurrences of extreme snowfall, dense fog, and low temperatures, which lead to traffic accidents and traffic disruption caused by slippery road surfaces. To ensure traffic safety under slippery road conditions and to support highway operation and management agencies in traffic control and pavement maintenance decision-making, this study develops a driving safety risk assessment model for highways in Xinjiang under slippery road conditions. From three perspectives of “traffic,” “road,” and “environment,” seven factors are identified, and a quantitative evaluation model is established for each factor. Based on the Mamdani fuzzy inference system, a driving safety risk assessment model is constructed for highways in Xinjiang under slippery road conditions. A 2 km section of a highway in Xinjiang was selected for experimental study, and the resulting driving safety risk map was generally consistent with the practical decision-making experience of road operation and management staff in traffic control and pavement maintenance.
