Abstract

The employment vulnerability of young gig workers can transmit social risks, exacerbate social inequality, and threaten national security and social stability. Based on systematic literature review, this study first identifies key influencing factors of employment vulnerability among young gig workers, and then applies the DEMATEL-ISM model to explore the mechanistic roles of these factors played in shaping such vulnerability. The results show that the employment vulnerability is affected by twelve important factors. Technological dimension is a significant contributor to employment vulnerability; and algorithm transparency functions as a fundamental driving factor within the entire hierarchical mechanism model. Based on the conclusions, this study proposes targeted strategies and recommendations for effectively addressing the employment vulnerability of young gig workers.
