The Effect of Random Deceleration Probability on Vehicle Energy Consumption on a Double-Speed Zone Road Section
Abstract
Considering the issue of driving safety on the road, traffic management departments always limit the maximum speed of some traffic bottleneck sections. Depending on the special conditions of the road section, multiple speed limit zones may even be established. When a vehicle is driving too fast on these sections, it will slow down. The deceleration movement leads to a reduction in the vehicle’s kinetic energy, that is, there is a loss of kinetic energy, referred to as energy consumption. A circular lane with two speed limit areas was studied. Parameter modifications were implemented in accordance with the rules of the NaSch traffic flow model. The influence of the random deceleration probability of vehicles on vehicle energy consumption was obtained through numerical simulation. The conclusion was drawn through graphical analysis: The greater the probability of random deceleration, the smaller the energy consumption value of vehicles on the road, the smaller the corresponding traffic volume and average speed, and the earlier traffic congestion occurs.
