The Design of a Mandarin Pronunciation Corrector and Its Application
Abstract
Due to historical, geographical, and dialectal factors, some teacher education students in China have issues with standard Mandarin pronunciation. Traditional methods and existing technologies used to correct pronunciation suffer from drawbacks such as being time-consuming and inefficient. To address this issue, this paper adopts a physics-based approach, drawing on sound propagation theory. By increasing the volume gain of air conduction and bone conduction - that is, enhancing the relative intensity of sound transmitted from air conduction and self-conduction to the eardrum - a practical device system for correcting Mandarin pronunciation has been developed using a direct method. This system enables speakers to instinctively, instantly, and self-correct their pronunciation through physiological feedback. Additionally, the paper illustrates the application scenarios of this corrector in teacher training classrooms, where it can effectively assist teacher trainees in improving their Mandarin proficiency, thereby promoting the widespread adoption and application of Mandarin in broader contexts.
