Fabrication and Characterization of High-Asphalt-Content Emulsified Asphalt Based on Catastrophic Phase Inversion
Abstract
Increasing the asphalt content of emulsified asphalt can effectively improve the road performance of asphalt mixtures. Therefore, high-asphalt-content emulsified asphalt (HAEm) was prepared in this study using the catastrophic phase inversion method. The fabrication process of HAEm and its performance influence law were investigated through dispersibility tests, conductivity tests, particle size analysis, storage stability analysis, and evaporation residue performance analysis. The results revealed that the maximum asphalt content required for the formation of O/W HAEm was 96%. It was observed that with an increase in the asphalt content, emulsifier content, stirring time, and stirring rate, the average particle size of HAEm decreases and tends to be stable, and the storage stability gradually becomes better. This study provides a theoretical basis and technical support for the production and application of HAEm.
