Abstract

Coiled tubing (CT) technology plays an increasingly important role in oilfield operations such as workover, stimulation, logging, and completion. To address the limitations of traditional hydraulic CT units, particularly in terms of energy efficiency, automation, and safety, an integrated electric automated CT unit has been developed. The unit integrates an electric injector, electric reel, self-elevating derrick, and electro-hydraulic control system, supported by advanced human–machine interface (HMI) and intelligent control technologies. Key innovations include synchronous motor control, electric spooling, automatic tripping, and rapid wellhead alignment. Field applications in the Daqing Oilfield demonstrated that the system can significantly reduce crew size, shorten non-operating time, and achieve energy savings of more than 80% compared with conventional diesel-driven units. Noise levels were also reduced by over 30%, while digitalization and automation improved operational safety and efficiency. These results confirm that integrated electric automated CT units represent a promising direction for enhancing the efficiency, safety, and sustainability of oilfield interventions.
