Numerical Investigations of a Variable-Camber Fan Aerodynamic Design in a Propulsion System for VTOL Vehicles
Abstract
To meet the propulsion system’s demands for both VTOL and cruise modes, this study proposes a tandem rotor configuration — the variable-camber fan — which achieves camber variation through stagger angle adjustment in the first rotor row. In aerodynamic parameter calculations, a variable-circulation design methodology ensures fixed rotor exit geometric angles across both operational modes. The feasibility of this configuration has been rigorously validated through CFD numerical simulations.
