Abstract

Optimal sleep is critical in supporting optimal performance and readiness, as well as health and wellbeing. Military occupations and operations inherently pose sleep and circadian challenges that result in fatigue and can adversely impact readiness, performance, and resilience both acutely and chronically. Field-relevant strategies and evidence-based non-pharmacological interventions can effectively mitigate sleep and circadian disturbances and fatigue in both operational and clinical settings. These strategies and interventions and summarized in this chapter. Two case studies illustrate how digital tools that can augment capabilities to prevent, detect, and manage emerging issues and treat chronic sleep disturbances at scale, and for a wide range of medical personnel.
