Review of: "Theory of the Leaky Intestine: Sex Differences in Intestinal Parasitic Infections, Cytoskeletal Wall Dysfunctions, and Hypertension"
Abstract
Njemanze et al. present an ambitious and highly integrative study proposing a unifying "Theory of the Leaky Intestine" linking intestinal parasitic infections (IPIs), cytoskeletal wall dysfunction, altered permeability, and systemic outcomes such as hypertension and metabolic dysregulation, with an emphasis on sex differences. The work combines parasitological diagnostics, high-frequency ultrasound duodenography/colonography, biochemical measurements, and regression modeling to explore structural-functional correlations in a clinical cohort.
