Abstract

Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (CMR) is the gold standard for evaluating ventricular morphology, function and myocardial tissue characterization in vivo. However, its complexity and long scan times have limited its use. Methodological advances have enabled the development of ultra-fast CMR protocols and improved the quantification of physiological parameters such as the vascularization status of cardiac tissue. These advances in advanced CMR acquisition not only improve diagnosis but also establish it as a critical platform for translational research. In this work, we focus on describing the techniques and their impact on understanding the microcirculatory status in subclinical cardiovascular disease and on the search for new therapies to reduce the impact of cancer treatments on the heart.
