The purpose of the study is to determine the place and role of the course ‘Library and Archival Studies’ in the training of Doctor of Philosophy students in specialty B13 ‘Library, Information and Archival Science’ at the National Academy of Cultural and Arts Management, in particular through the analysis of its impact on the development of research competencies, research skills, and the ability of students to implement innovative research projects in the fields of librarianship, documentation studies, and archival science. Methodology. The study applies a systematic and comprehensive approach to the analysis of the educational and scientific programme, the modular structure of the course, and research-based learning tasks. Content analysis, comparative analysis of scientific publications, and methods of systematisation and generalisation of regulatory documents in the field of library, information, and archival science were also employed. The scientific novelty of the study lies in the comprehensive justification of the role of the course as a key element of the educational and scientific programme, ensuring the formation of general and specialised competencies of doctoral students. For the first time, the analysis of the modular structure of the course, learning outcomes, and research-based tasks has been combined with the development of research competencies and the ability to engage in innovative activities in librarianship, documentation studies, and archival science. Conclusions. The course ‘Library and Archival Studies’ occupies a key place in the training of Doctor of Philosophy students, providing a methodological foundation for scientific research and the development of systematic research competencies. Its content and modular structure facilitate the sequential achievement of learning outcomes, integrate theoretical training with practical tasks, and develop the students’ ability to generate new knowledge and implement innovations in professional practice.
