Morphological transformations of borrowed words in the modern Ukrainian language
Abstract
The article reveals the theoretical foundations of analyzing the morphological transformations of borrowed words in contemporary Ukrainian, which necessitates a systematic description of their adaptation to the grammatical structure. The study establishes the main regularities of the formal integration of foreignlanguage units, manifested in the modification of their morphemic structure and alignment with Ukrainian models of inflection and word formation. It is shown that borrowings are actualized under the influence of sociocultural and communicative factors, in particular globalization processes and digitalization, which determine the intensity of the penetration of Anglicisms into various functional spheres. Emphasis is placed on the fact that English serves as the dominant source of foreign-language elements undergoing systematic morphological adaptation. The analysis highlights the importance of suffixal derivation as the most productive integration mechanism, ensuring the formation of verbal (-yty, -uvaty), adjectival (-ovyi, -nyi), and nominal (-nyk, -ka) models. It is stated that new word-formation types function predominantly in youth, media, and digital discourses, where linguistic innovations spread most dynamically. It is determined that Anglicisms undergo adaptation at the level of gender, number, and case categories, acquiring complete paradigms of Ukrainian inflection. It is noted that certain borrowings develop productive series of derivative lexemes, which confirms their morphological stabilization and incorporation into the language system. It is substantiated that the intensity of morphological transformations is accompanied by the democratization of language norms, which facilitates the formation of variable models and the expansion of normative boundaries in contemporary usage. It is concluded that the morphological modifications of borrowed words demonstrate the capacity of the Ukrainian language for adaptive development and reflect the dynamic interaction between internal linguistic mechanisms and external communicative and sociocultural influences.
