Abstract

This article provides a comprehensive analysis of migration processes in Ukraine, focusing on their causes, consequences, and future prospects amid ongoing armed conflict, economic instability, and social challenges.Migration is defined as the process of changing permanent residence for individuals or groups, involving relocation within regions, across borders, or between rural and urban areas. The Ukrainian Constitution establishes key principles for migration policy, aiming to regulate flows, mitigate uncontrolled movements, protect migrants' rights, and facilitate their integration into political, socioeconomic, and cultural environments. The study distinguishes between internal and external migration. Internal processes include intraregional, inter-regional, and urban-rural shifts, primarily driven by internally displaced persons (IDPs). External migration encompasses emigration and immigration, often international in scope. According to the World MigrationReport 2022, Ukraine ranks 8th globally for labor emigration, with 5.5-6 million citizens working abroad, over 1.5 million in Poland alone. The Russian invasion has intensified these trends, leading to forced migration, rising unemployment, and economic volatility. As noted by researcher O. Sydorchuk, migration is directly linked to social and economic security threats, prompting populations to seek better conditions elsewhere, while uncontrolled flows exacerbate extremism and societal divisions.
