Abstract

In an era where digital media offers unprecedented avenues for immersive experiences, this research explores the integration of Virtual Reality (VR) storytelling to evoke empathy and social awareness. Focusing on the life of a homeless individual during a harsh winter, this study employs Unreal Engine 5 to craft a compelling interactive narrative. By merging technological innovation with narrative intent, this VR experience allows users to embody the homeless protagonist, fostering an empathetic connection through interaction with virtual elements. Through the simulation of homelessness, users gain insight into the challenges faced by marginalized communities. This research delves into the development process, technical considerations, and user feedback to assess the efficacy of the VR storytelling approach in generating empathy and inspiring social change. Ultimately, this work highlights the potential of digital media, particularly VR, as a medium for fostering compassion and promoting deeper societal understanding.
