Abstract

Historically, most research done on noise and sound field recreation inside an aircraft fuselage has relied heavily on experimental methods, that have limited accuracy and make predicting outcomes for varying circumstances nearly impossible. This research focuses on developing a methodology aimed at replicating a lifelike sound field inside a business jet fuselage using Finite Element Analysis and simulation. This is achieved by utilizing vibrations created by localized exciters attached to the exterior of the fuselage. The effect of quantity and location of the exciters is also investigated. This work can add valuable insight for active noise control research. In addition to the sound-field simulation, this thesis contains data from an experimental setup and related structural analysis of the fuselage and transmission pathways of vibration in the cabin structure. The results and insights gained from this research will serve as a tool for accurately recreating sound-field in an aircraft cabin and setting up active noise control systems.
