Canadian Parents and Beach Water Safety: How Parents Assess and Respond to Risks and Implications for Public Health Communications
Abstract
The two infographics share key findings from a national study conducted by researchers at Toronto Metropolitan University. The study aimed to identify the burden of recreational water illness among Canadian beachgoers. Currently, baseline data about recreational water illness is lacking in Canada. Beachgoers may lack awareness and understanding of recreational water illness risks and how to prevent them. The long-term goal is to reduce the burden of recreational water illness in Canada, contributing to improved public health. The infographics share results from qualitative focus groups and provide recommendations for parents and public health officials about how to reduce the burden of recreational waters.
