EFFECT OF EX-SITU SHORT-TERM PRESERVATION OF NOILER COCK`S SEMEN ON SEMEN CHARACTERISTICS, MORPHOLOGY, MILANOV RESISTANCE TEST AND HYPO-OSMOTIC SWELLING TEST (HOST)
Abstract
This study evaluated the effect of ex-situ short-term preservation time on the quality characteristics of Noiler cock semen. A twenty (20) mature (21 weeks old) Noiler cocks were arranged in a completely randomized design with four storage duration (0, 2, 4, and 8 hours post-collection). Semen was collected by the abdominal-cloacal message technique and assessed for quality characteristics, morphological defects, reactive oxygen species (ROS), milanov resistance test, and hypo-osmotic swelling test (HOST). Data were analyzed using Analysis of variance where treatment means were separated using Duncan Multiple Range Test (DMRT) of Genstat software. Result showed no significant (P>0.05) differences in semen volume, pH, sperm concentration, and ROS across storage times. However, sperm motility, viability, acrosomal integrity, milanov resistance and HOST values significantly (P
