Abstract

Background: Menopause is characterized by a decrease in estrogen, which can lead to impaired vascular function. This decrease in estrogen inhibits vasodilation, narrowing blood vessels, which results in increased blood pressure. Hypertension can trigger a series of symptoms, including headaches caused by increased intracranial pressure, dizziness due to reduced tissue blood flow/perfusion, and ischemia caused by vasoconstriction. As a non-pharmacological solution, listening to music has been shown to help achieve a relaxed state. Furthermore, the prostration position has been proposed as an intervention because it utilizes the force of gravity; the lower the body position, the greater the potential for relaxation and blood pressure reduction. Purpose: To determine the effectiveness of music therapy and prostration positions in reducing the frequency of headache attacks in menopausal women with hypertension. Method: This study used a quasi-experimental design using a pre- and post-test approach with a control group design. Conducted in the Garuda Community Health Center work area in September-October 2023. Sampling used purposive sampling technique and required a sample size of 60 participants, with 30 participants for each group. Data analysis used the Wilcoxon test because the data distribution was not normal. Results: The mean reduction in pain frequency in the intervention group was 0.3 higher than the control group, the mean reduction in pain intensity in the intervention group was 0.8 higher than the control group, and the mean reduction in diastolic blood pressure in the intervention group was 3.6 higher than the control group. There was a significant difference in pain frequency scores before and after in the intervention group with a p-value
