Abstract

This study provides a brief view of the former industrial economy after World War 2 and the transformation of the United States into a service economy. Therefore, the up-and-coming industrial economy will be explored as to what impact it will have on higher education and human resource professionals if America reverts to an industrial economy. Higher education will have to adjust to the needs of industry and operational functions and the skill sets needed. Human resource professionals will need to be aware of industrial processes, the knowledge employees require, and how these needs are fulfilled within the academic environment, so they can better understand the course content and how the knowledge learned is applied. Higher education will have to adjust to various modalities to accommodate students' varying educational needs. This study will provide some suggestions.
