Abstract

The globose cactus Melocactus violaceus Pfeiff. is an endemic and threatened species from eastern Brazil. One of the threats affecting the species is the overexploitation of natural populations for ornamental purposes. Here we report the commercialization of the species in street markets in Grande Vitória, Espírito Santo in 2025, highlighting the continued decline of the species even within conservation units.
