Abstract

Complete occlusion of the brachiocephalic, subclavian, and internal jugular veins is rare in patients undergoing hemodialysis for chronic renal failure. However, establishing a dialysis access route in these patients presents a significant challenge. In such cases, the Surfacer® Inside-Out® Access Catheter System enables the placement of a permanent dialysis catheter via the right side, thereby providing vascular access.Although this device was introduced in Korea in 2022 as a designated rare medical device, no clinical use has been reported. Here, we report the case of a patient in whom a permanent dialysis catheter was successfully inserted through chronically occluded right brachiocephalic and internal jugular veins using this device.
