Abstract

Rheumatic diseases comprise a heterogeneous group of disorders that affect not only the joints but also multiple organ systems throughout the body.Because of chronic inflammation and immunosuppressive therapies, these conditions are often associated with a wide range of musculoskeletal complications.Herein, we discuss common musculoskeletal complications in patients with rheumatic diseases, including osteoporosis, non-traumatic tendon rupture, osteonecrosis, infection, growth retardation, and macrophage activation syndrome. As these complications may be clinically indistinguishable from disease exacerbations, imaging findings play a pivotal role in early diagnosis and appropriate management.
