Homoeopathic consideration of mood swings in women: A narrative review
Abstract
Mood swings are frequently experienced by women across different phases of life and are often associated with hormonal fluctuations, psycho-social stressors, and individual emotional susceptibility. Although mild mood variations may be physiological, persistent or intense mood swings can significantly affect interpersonal relationships, occupational performance, and overall quality of life. Conventional management largely relies on hormonal therapy or psychotropic medications, which may offer symptomatic relief but are often limited by adverse effects, dependency concerns, and lack of individualization. Homoeopathy, with its holistic and individualized approach, offers a therapeutic alternative by addressing the underlying emotional, hormonal, and constitutional imbalances rather than merely suppressing symptoms. This narrative review explores the concept of mood swings in women from both contemporary medical and homoeopathic perspectives, emphasizing etiological factors, life-stage associations, miasmatical considerations, and the scope of constitutional treatment. The article highlights the relevance of homoeopathy in managing mood disturbances through individualized remedy selection, lifestyle counselling, and long-term emotional stabilization.
