Abstract

Prurigo nodularis is a chronic, intensely pruritic dermatosis characterized by multiple, firm, hyperkeratotic papules and nodules, predominantly distributed over the extensor surfaces of the extremities. Persistent scratching results in excoriation, lichenification, and significant impairment of quality of life. The condition is frequently associated with psychological factors such as emotional stress, anxiety, and sleep disturbances, which may influence disease onset and chronicity. Conventional management often provides limited relief, especially in long-standing cases. Case summary: This case report describes the homoeopathic management of prurigo nodularis with prominent psychosomatic involvement. A female patient 54 years old presented with chronic pruritic nodular lesions associated with anxiety, insomnia, fear of being alone, and emotional suppression following financial betrayal and perceived insult by a close individual since 10 years. The mental and emotional factors appeared to have a significant role in the progression and persistence of the disease. Individualized homoeopathic treatment was instituted based on a holistic assessment of physical, mental, and emotional symptoms. Staphysagria was prescribed according to the totality of symptoms. Marked improvement was observed in pruritus, cutaneous lesions, and associated psychological complaints during follow-up. This case highlights the role of homoeopathy in addressing the mind-body relationship in chronic dermatological disorders.
