Abstract

Vitamin-D deficiency (VDD) is emerging as a global pandemic today. India, one of the South-East Asian countries has a prevalence rate of more than 70% to this neo stealthy epidemic in its general population. Recent studies have shown that there is a vast downfall in the serum 25 hydroxy vitamin D or 25(OH) D3 levels of Indian population in all age and gender groups irrespective of the socioeconomic and the cultural differences. The synthesis of Vitamin-D through sunlight, the intake of dietary supplements and the fortified food items that are enriched with vitamin-d are the three main sources of this sunshine vitamin. But the socio-cultural revisions like modernization, urbanization, food culture, etc. and the less availability of fortified food sources are all adding fuel to the fire of this evolving neo-epidemic in India. Besides, VDD due to prolonged indoor during the covid-19 has evolved as “the veiled epidemic afore the Global Pandemic”. This review aims at the interest of bringing forth the seriousness in the effect of Vitamin-D Deficiency in the Indian population to the lime light, to stress the necessity of National Food Fortification Programs and awareness programs by the government and envisioning the constitutional homoeopathic approach in the management and treatment of VDD.
