Abstract

A ganglion is a localized, tense cystic swelling in connection with the joint capsule or tendon sheath. It contains clear gelatinous fluid.[1] This mostly originates from the capsule of a joint or a tendon sheath. It may be due to a leakage in the capsule or the tendon sheath following trauma and subsequent encapsulation with fibrous tissue, or it may be due to mucoid degeneration of the fibrous sheath. Ganglia are commonly seen on the dorsum of the wrist or the palm of the hand [2]. Although the specific mechanism of cyst formation is uncertain, most current hypotheses suggest that extra-articular mucin "droplets" combine to create the tumor’s main body [3]. The only current therapeutic options for ganglion cysts are conservative management or surgical removal. However, even after effective surgical intervention, development may recur. Homoeopathic literature contains ample documentation and encouraging evidence regarding the management of ganglion cysts. The present case report aims to document the role of an individualized constitutional homoeopathic medicine in the successful treatment of a ganglion cyst of the wrist.
