Abstract

Urticaria (hives) is a common dermatological condition characterized by transient, erythematous, edematous, and pruritic wheals involving the skin and, occasionally, mucous membrane. The emerging field of psychodermatology highlights how psychological stress, suppressed emotions, and unresolved conflicts manifest on the skin. Urticaria is a common skin disorder that often reflects deeper psycho-emotional turmoil. Emotional suppression and conflict can significantly influence the onset and persistence of urticaria. Case Summary: A 21-year-old female reported with complaints of urticaria, getting worsened with emotional stress and scratching. Case taking was done with the mental symptoms reported as the feeling of domination, suppressed anger, and a desire for independence. Her Dermatology Life Quality Index (DLQI) score was 20, indicating a very large impact on daily life. Based on the totality Staphysagria 200 was prescribed. Outcome: Within two to three weeks, significant improvement began to be noted in both skin symptoms and emotional well-being, with DLQI score reducing from 20 to 4 over four months. The score on applying Modified Naranjo Criteria for Homoeopathy (MONARCH) scale after treatment was +9. Conclusion: The case demonstrated significant improvement in urticaria following individualized homoeopathic treatment with Staphysagria, emphasizing the importance of mental and emotional generals in psychodermatological conditions.
