Individualised homoeopathic management of tinea cruris: A case report
Abstract
Dermatophytosis is a common superficial fungal infection caused by dermatophytes and is highly prevalent in tropical and developing countries such as India. Tinea cruris predominantly affects young adult males and is frequently associated with intense pruritus, chronicity, and recurrence, leading to significant impairment in quality of life. Despite the availability of conventional antifungal therapies, recurrence remains a common challenge, prompting patients to seek complementary treatment approaches. Case summary: A 23-year-old male presented with chronic pruritic eruptions over the right groin region, gradually extending to the right iliac region over a period of six months. The itching was aggravated at night and in a warm room and was relieved by bathing. The patient had a history of conventional and Ayurvedic treatment with repeated relapses. Based on individualised homoeopathic case analysis and repertorzsation, Arsenicum album was prescribed along with a placebo during follow-up. Gradual and sustained improvement was observed, with complete resolution of eruptions and associated symptoms over an eight-month follow-up period, without recurrence. Conclusion: This case suggests that individualised homoeopathic treatment has a beneficial role as a complementary therapeutic approach in the management of tinea cruris.
